There are sensors in the spindle that detect how much vibration is occurring and where, so it basically just visualizes it for you and allows you to run an analysis

I do gauge blocks from the big end. I start with the largest block that is smaller than the finished stack. Then the next biggest block that fits in the remaining gap and so on until I have the right size. Starting at the small end makes no sense to me.

You gave me a smile with that story with the log at the gate! We have two small dogs, and one is practically an escape artist, plotting weekly prison breaks and getting into all sorts of mischief. A few months ago, he jumped on some pallets, hit a spade that unlocked one of the horse boxes, and let one of the horses out, I could almost not believe it when I saw it on the surveillance cameras 😂. Meanwhile, his laid-back partner in crime just tags along like, 'Sure, why not?'

As a seasoned, and now old, business owner, let me just give my own experience when considering buying an existing machine shop versus starting a new one: When buying an existing machine shop you get immediate access to customers and established supplier and employee relationships. Even more important access to an immediate cash flow that usually gives quicker returns and access to existing machines and inventory, but be cautious of hidden issues and dependencies on key employees or customers. Thirdly, access to financial records for informed decision-making. This third is extremely valuable, because spending time on the financial records you can learn a lot of successful and profitable processes, and those projects you should not take on in the future. On the other side starting from scratch you get freedom to build your vision with the latest technology, creating a unique brand identity and efficient processes. You can Implement modern management systems without legacy issues. But do not underestimate the significant startup costs and time needed to build a customer base and achieve cash flow. So have this in mind: - ROI and investment. Compare total acquisition cost versus startup cost and returns. - Assess demand and plan inventory management accordingly. Conduct thorough due diligence and have a detailed business plan with some backup alternatives. - Finally think about your own appetite and tolerance for risk and know before you decide, how long can you go without breaking even.

A couple tips. Touching off and calculating how much to remove is great for ruffing but actual dimension before finishing should be checked off the center height of fixture with gage blocks or height gage. The center height of that fixture is probably 3.0000, so if grinding a .250 rad. top of radius should check 3.250 from surface plate. Also, Just use the front rail and a parallel. Front rail should be kept true. If its not fix it. Feed from fixture out, except for a skim without feeding down after part cools.

a CNC router table with a 0.5in aluminum bed would be perfect for running 50+ parts at a time and they have auto tool changers. You can also get them with coolant misters on them. you'd just need to build a enclosed to keep the shavings contained. You can machine in threaded holes for fixturing your parts to and depending on the machine you could have anywhere from 30inx40in to 4ft by 8ft of workable machining area.
